GRANDVIEW ASSISTANCE PROGRAM is an emergency aid service for those people living in Grandview and the Grandview school district. It is intended to provide short-term assistance to low income families who need a helping hand to assist them during a crisis. Once more, we are collecting school supplies for G.A.P. beginning NOW. Please bring new items to the shop before July 30 and we will get them to G.A.P. for you. This link will give you an idea of the items needed this year: http://www.grandviewassistanceprogram.org/school_supplies.htm Did you take advantage of your Hard Bean Fresh Frappé coupon last week? Did you know where to find it? NEW FEATURED LOCAL ARTIST – CHERIE BLAIRE believes that she is ‘expressing God’s heart through prophetic art’ and when you visit the shop you will likely agree. Her work will grace our walls for two months. To quote their Yahoo Group description, it is “a creative group of writers and prospective writers who gather at the Hard Bean….Dedicated to improving our understanding and grasp of our craft. We discuss ideas, offer our work for honest appraisal, and support each other in our varied forays into the written word.” The HB Writers Circle is open to anyone from post high school through age 100+ and meets on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m NEXT HB WRITERS CIRCLE MEETS SATURDAY THE JULY 12TH. KIDS’ WRITING CLUB SHINING STARS – is open to children ages 9 thru 12 who enjoy writing – stories or poems - every chance they get, not just when assigned! This group is led by Dana Sowerby and meets on the 2nd Saturday of each month from NOON to 1 p.m. at The Bean. Activities are centered around fun writing exercises, with no actual homework or assignments. This is not a place for children to be taught how to read or write or to be tutored. Naturally, help and encouragement are integrated in the time spent together. It is more like an enhancement to what students are doing in their schools. Parents will be required to sign permission slips for children’s participation. Parents should keep in mind that no outside food or drink may be brought into The Hard Bean and should plan accordingly for their children’s needs. WOMEN’S HANDWORK GROUP – Bring your own handwork project (knit, crochet, quilt, needlepoint, cross stitch, etc) to our new group on the FIRST TUESDAY of each month from 7 to 8:30 p.m. An evening to relax with new and old friends, share thoughts and ideas (or just listen), encourage and admire each other’s work. NEXT HANDWORK GROUP MEETS TUESDAY JULY 1 A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to THE LATTÉ LADIES girls’ softball team, sponsored by The Hard Bean, who have placed FIRST in their LEAGUE! Ya-HOOOOO! You go, Latté Ladies! AFTERNOON PICK-ME-UP – Sometimes you might not feel like coffee because it just might keep you up all night but you still really need something to get you past that mid-afternoon slump. Here’s something to consider: Rooibos is a red tea (it means red bush) that brings oxygen to the brain which means, of course, that it gives a feeling of alertness. And without caffeine. But if you think you still might need a little caffeine without a fast blood sugar spike, have Rooibos in the same cup with green tea, which naturally contains caffeine, for a real super pick me up. Where can you get this great combination? Where else? The Hard Bean! WRITER’S CRITIQUE GROUP – Heartland of America Christian Writer’s Network (HACWN) is considering starting a new critique group to meet at The Hard Bean. However, there needs to be a committed number of people for this to happen. If you are a writer and interested in the possibility of joining HACWN and attending this new critique group, please email Cheryl at Cheryl@HardBean.net She will give you contact information for HACWN and answer any questions you may have. At this point, there is no day or time of the week determined for this new critique group, though based on the times of the current groups, an evening group may be best for our location. You can visit an HACWN meeting to help with your decision to join one of their groups at The ‘Bean. HARD BEAN CAFÉ ART PROGRAM - Hard Bean’s Art program creates a platform for local Kansas City artists to display their work free of charge. All the artwork on display is for sale unless specified otherwise. If you see something you like ask the barista on shift about how to make it your own. Also, think of others while you are looking at the artwork, original art makes a perfect original gift. Please support local talent.

Thank you All Nations, for keeping Grandview on the ‘prayer map’ so to speak. HARD BEAN BLOGSPOT - Please visit our blog weekly. And let us know by your comments that you’ve been by. Press release info: "We teach BookCrossers, our members, the '3 Rs' of BookCrossing: to Read, Register, and Release their books for others to enjoy," says Ron Hornbaker, President and CTO of BookCrossing.com's parent company, Humankind Systems. "Sharing books with your friends and neighbors is a natural instinct... what we've done is created a tracking database so that you can see where your books are, and read the journal entries along the way. BookCrossers register a book by going to the website at www.BookCrossing.com, entering the ISBN number of the book, and getting a unique BCID (BookCrossing ID number) that is then written inside the cover (or on a bookmark) along with the website address. Convenient and eye-catching BookCrossing bookmarks can be printed from the website, making the registration process quick and easy. "Just think!" exclaims the originator of the site. "Books are forever... people don't throw them away. A hundred years from now, your great-great-grandchild might open a book, find a website address with a BookCrossing ID number, and go read a journal entry that YOU wrote. How cool is that?" Copy and paste the following url into your internet browser address bar: http://bookcrossing.com /mybookshelf/TheHardBean
